Hinting at ultra-luxury cruise lines aiming to attract a younger, design-savvy traveller, a subtle trend is emerging among the latest wave of ship launches: cruise ship suites in the form of duplex guest accommodation. These split-level cruise ship suites feature living areas and bedrooms on separate floors, creating a homely, apartment-style atmosphere with the perfect blend of daytime comfort and nighttime relaxation. Here, we take a look at a few standout examples of incredible split-level cruise ship suites...
In September, another milestone was reached in the construction of the Orient Express Corinthian, which will host 108 guests - the installation of its three carbon masts, giving the vessel a total air draft of 328ft. The ship's impressive design is evident not only in its exterior but also in its innovative guest suites, including the Suite Duplex, which offers a remarkable 1,324 sq ft of internal space.
A sweeping 180-degree staircase connects the upside-down layout: the grand bedroom on the lower level offers a more protected ambience, with a huge picture window and stylish chaise longue for panoramic views, which are even showcased from the bathroom. Above, the spacious living area has a more open feel, with access to a balcony, a separate powder room, and a second entrance.
When Evrima launched, marking Ritz-Carlton's entry into the cruise space, the two-storey Loft Suite drew considerable attention.
With dining and lounge areas above - offering access to a balcony - and a more sheltered bedroom below, the bed is positioned next to the window for welcoming and awakening sea views. At 587 sq ft, this category sits mid-range for the ship, making it a tempting option for many.
Far from mid-range, the Funnel Suite aboard Four Seasons I is housed within a glass-enclosed funnel and spans four stories. Described by Forbes as "bonkers," it features three bedrooms and an incredible 9,975 sq ft of indoor and outdoor space. Prices are available by invitation only.
However, the ship's three-bedroom Loft Suite does have a listed price, albeit starting at US$146,600. Split over two levels and totalling 7,952 sq ft, it boasts a vast terrace with a splash pool, private sauna and steam room, full kitchen (with separate staff entrance), and much, much more.
For those seeking more understated surroundings with a focus on extraordinary destinations, Ponant's unique icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot ventures further than any other expedition ship. With itineraries reaching the North Pole and the most remote parts of Antarctica accessible to tourists, it offers a truly exceptional experience.
Its Duplex Suite, at 1,011 sq ft, opens to dining and living areas with double-height space and a balcony featuring a hot tub. Upstairs, the bed faces double-height windows, with the bath, shower, and dressing area tucked behind to preserve the views over the aft of the vessel, ideal for watching the ship carve a path through the ice floes.
Other expedition ships designed to maximise scenic views include Seabourn's Seabourn Venture and sister ship Seabourn Pursuit. Their spectacular Wintergarden Suites span two decks: the lower level features a lounge, small bar, and dining area, while the upper level houses the bedroom, open to the rooms double-height windows.
With the bed positioned to face vast, unobstructed views, guests enjoy ultimate panoramas - whether exploring tropical waters or polar regions.
Finally, Regent has unveiled not one but two categories of duplex suites aboard Seven Seas Prestige, set to launch at the end of 2026. The Skyview Aura, Sola, and Luna Suites feature a residential onebedroom layout with a private in-suite elevator leading to a secluded Skyview Terrace.
Meanwhile, the Grand Loft Suite offers soaring double-height space and a dramatic "window wall," allowing guests to enjoy outstanding views even from the moment they wake as the upstairs bed faces directly towards the ocean.
