Marking the occasion: best ways to celebrate on a cruise

Scenic Eclipse was one of the most hotly anticipated new ships for years, and she really does live up to the hype. The ship's striking profile is more reminiscent of a luxury superyacht than a traditional cruise ship, and the decor on board is cool and contemporary. An ice-strengthened hull and gadgets including a helicopter and submarine mean that guests can explore Antarctica and the Arctic, along with warm weather destinations including the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
Our Insight
Australian company Scenic started out in 1986 as a coach touring specialist, and have grown over the years into one of the best regarded tour operators in the business. In 2008 they launched their European river cruise programme, later expanding into Asia, and in 2019 the much-anticipated Scenic Eclipse made her debut on the oceans.
This groundbreaking ship is a great choice for those who want to explore the world without sacrificing on comfort and style, and is arguably the most luxurious vessel at sea with polar capabilities. We're particularly excited about Scenic Ocean Cruises' expedition voyages to Antarctica and Svalbard, but there is plenty to tempt those travellers who prefer warmth, such as pottering around the Med, to pursuing polar bears through the Arctic. In many ways this ship is a hybrid, positioned somewhere between classic luxury ocean cruising and the more intrepid expedition style.
Highlights on board Scenic's ships include spacious suites, all with private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows; a choice of ten different dining experiences, pretty incredible given the ship only carries 228 guests (200 in the polar regions); a state-of-the-art theatre; a large spa; an indoor heated swimming pool; plus a gym and a yoga and Pilates studio.
Scenic Eclipse's Ice Class 1A Super rating is the highest possible for a non-icebreaker, allowing you to travel deep into the polar regions, and toys on board include a helicopter, seven-seater submersible, a fleet of zodiacs plus kayaks, snorkelling and scuba diving gear.
All meals, drinks (including premium spirits), gratuities, butler service and WiFi are included, along with a selection of Scenic Freechoice activities and Scenic Enrich special events. A sister ship, Scenic Eclipse II, followed in 2023 and boasts several enhancements including an immersive dining experience and a brand new bar and vitality pool on the Sky Deck.
