Our Insight

Cruising for single travellers

Solo travel is a cause we champion at Mundy, lobbying for the best deals and a great onboard experience. We also carried out extensive research into the needs and preferences of our solo travellers and this resulted in a package of Mundy benefits, tailored to the needs of those who travel alone.

We have a dedicated mailing list for offers and opportunities and in-depth information about the best facilities to help you choose the perfect cruise line. (Whilst a cruise holiday may be perfect for solos, the right choice of ship can make a big difference). And because one of the pains of travelling alone is getting to your destination, we can provide all sorts of add-ons to make your travel experience easier, such as airport assistance, luggage forwarding, and private transfers and guides.

Some solo travellers prefer the flexibility of all-inclusive ships, taking away the embarrassment of returning the generosity of others over drinks, and that fuss about who will pick up the tab for wine at dinner. Open seating can be the perfect way to meet people, or you may prefer the opportunity to build relationships with fellow guests at fixed tables. You can also pick themed cruises for joint activities with like-minded individuals, to get to know others more easily.

So if you want the very best solo experience, call us and we can let you know which cruise lines currently give the best welcome to single guests: special cocktail parties, hosted tables and attractive fares are all indicators!

The best luxury cruise lines for single travellers

Crystal Cruises

Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony both relaunched in 2023 after an extensive refurbishment. The new Crystal Cruises team includes a number of those behind its previous successes, and together with an enhanced onboard experience, they have already made a triumphant return to the ultra-luxury cruise sector.

Silversea Cruises

The Silversea fleet began with Silver Cloud - named after the famed Rolls-Royce - designed to the same exacting standards. Silversea now operates 12 ships on a range of worldwide itineraries, from the glamour of the French Riviera to some of the most remote locations on Earth, all whilst retaining their reputation for innovation, shown in an exceptional culinary programme and their adventurous expedition itineraries.

Oceania Cruises

Whether you choose one of the classic smaller R class ships, the purpose built slightly larger O class, or the newer A class ships, you can expect the same levels of Oceania Cruises delivery, with a huge emphasis on excellent food and fascinating worldwide itineraries which can be combined to create lengthy trips. From 2026, Oceania Cruises operates on an adult-only basis for new bookings, and offers a great option for those seeking destination immersion, a calm and relaxed ambience on board, and great amenities.

AmaWaterways

AmaWaterways is a favourite among river cruise regulars for good reason. The ships are spacious, the crews know how to read the room and you get plenty included without being over-managed. If you want luxury river cruises that prioritise time ashore, this is a super dependable choice. You step off in the middle of the places you came to see, join the included excursion if you want it and still have time to wander off on your own.

Uniworld River Cruises

These award-winning and intimate vessels - with an average capacity of just 130 guests - are beautifully appointed in an English country house style, unsurprising given that Uniworld is a sister company to Red Carnation Hotels. They provide a truly luxurious European river cruise experience and offer a number of itineraries further afield, including India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Egypt.

Hebridean Island Cruises

Hebridean Island Cruises offers a truly unique way to experience Scotland. The unpretentious little Hebridean Princess, inextricably linked to the Western Isles, is loved by all who sail on her, while the Lord of the Highlands brings the same intimacy and charm to the inland waters of the Caledonian Canal.

Ponant Explorations

Travelling on a Ponant Explorations cruise is simultaneously an elegant and an adventurous experience - everything is about the relationship with nature. The name of the line itself refers to the setting of the sun, whilst the Ponant ships' names evoke the winds, the hemispheres, the sun and the stars, as well as famous explorers.

Explora Journeys

The first of Explora Journeys' luxury, all-inclusive ships launched in summer 2023, with a planned six ships in the fleet by 2028, marking the exciting entrance of Explora Journeys into the ultra-luxury sector and our Best of the Best category. Backed by the shipping colossus that is MSC, this is a new line, with a management team including a number sourced from other luxury brand and luxury cruise operators.
