Voyage Itinerary

24 January to 25 January

Setting sail from Singapore

Singapore is one of the world's richest cities, with a standard of living to match, and in recent years it has moved on from its image as a sterile, overly officious nanny state to become one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in the region. Singapore's heritage as an important trading post means that there is a real cultural mix, with four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Step away from the gleaming towers and you'll find yourself transported into another world amongst the intoxicating streets of Chinatown and Little India.

Our tip

Food is a passion, almost a religion, in Singapore. So plan ahead, ask the locals and make sure you don’t miss out – street food or super-fancy, either is great.

1 February

Vietnam: Con Dao

The remote Con Dao archipelago lies far to the south of the Vietnamese mainland, made up of 16 sleepy islands blessed with beautiful beaches and the best diving in Vietnam. The main island, Con Son, has a darker side, used by the French and the Americans to detain political prisoners in grim conditions.

2 February to 3 February

Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City

Saigon, as it was known then, was the capital of the South during the Vietnam War, and American-style capitalism has been embraced more enthusiastically here than in the North, with a clutch of shining skyscrapers standing as testament to Vietnam’s surging economic growth.

5 February

Vietnam: Sa Dec

The riverfront town of Sa Dec is one of the most appealing destinations in the Mekong Delta, a laid back and peaceful place where boats laden with flowers from the nearby markets ply the waterways, overlooked by beautiful old French colonial villas.

Cambodia: Phnom Penh

Cambodia’s lively, youthful capital has shown a remarkable resilience in bouncing back from the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime. The beautiful Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda shouldn’t be missed, while the former Tuol Sleng prison is a harrowing reminder of Phnom Penh’s recent past.

9 February

Cambodia: Oudong

Oudong was once the capital of Cambodia, and served as the royal residence for over 250 years until it was abandoned by King Norodom in 1866. The twin peaks of Phnom Oudong mountain are scattered with Buddhist stupas, and offer great views of the surrounding countryside.

Arriving in Siem Reap

The town of Siem Reap is a pleasant enough place in its own right, but that’s not why so many people flock here; this is the gateway to the sprawling ruins of Angkor, the spectacular seat of the ancient Khmer empire.

Tailor-make your trip

Ways to make it better
    • The Fullerton hotel, Singapore

      Our favourite hotel in Singapore

So many wonderful hotels. We like a lot of them, but our choice is the Fullerton.

    • Eastern and Oriental Express

      Leave Singapore in style

If you’ve got time and the dates work, take the Eastern and Oriental Express train to Bangkok.

    • Belmond La Residence d'Angkor, Siem Reap

Where to stay in Siem Reap

La Residence d’Angkor edges in front as our favourite.

    • Bayon Temple, Cambodia

      Touring the temples

A tour of the main sites at Angkor can be squeezed into a day, but take three days to explorer the outer temples and learn more about the medieval world's greatest metropolis.
