What are the benefits of a small luxury ship?
Because small ships are able to reach smaller ports of call and provide a higher level of service than their big ship counterparts, we believe that small ship cruising is the very best way to travel. Usually they offer more space per person, and an attentive team to make sure you have the very best experience. Small ship cruising offers the very best of the best.
Will I get seasick on a cruise?
It is very unlikely. Modern cruise ships, even small ones, are built to ensure passenger comfort and as such the movement felt onboard is limited, especially when compared to passenger ferries or sailing vessels. If you're concerned, then call us to discuss the best time of year to travel, which area to visit, what accommodation to book, and what treatments are available.
Will it be formal on board?
This varies from cruise line to cruise line, from laidback luxury where not even a jacket is required, to lavish gala black-tie evenings. There's a general trend towards less formal attire onboard. We have first-hand knowledge of the cruise lines we work with and can offer advice and guidance about the style of each, so you can pick the one best suited to you.
Can I go ashore whenever I like?
When in port you're free to come and go as you please. It may be that the ship is at anchor when you disembark using one of the ship's tenders, which act as a regular shuttle boat service between the ship and shore. If alongside, you can simply walk on and off. Either way, we recommend travelling on a smaller ship to avoid the large crowds of disembarking guests and the queues that come with it.
How busy will it be on board?
We work with cruise lines and ships on the small end of the scale, which cater to a more discerning clientele, so they offer more space per guest than the larger, mid-market lines. This means few (if any) queues and plenty of space around the pool. The itinerary you choose does make a difference. On port-intensive voyages, your fellow guests are exploring ashore more of the time. Some ships are designed with more space to lounge in the sun than others, so a conversation with us is always best: that way we can give guidance about the right cruise for you.
What’s the average age of guests on a luxury cruise?
Younger than most people think! Different lines attract different styles. Some are perfect for intrepid and adventurous travellers looking for an active holiday without compromising on luxury. Others are great for those searching for refined relaxation in fashionable surroundings. Even families are catered for on some lines with multigenerational travel becoming increasingly popular. Much depends on the cruise line, destination, and timing, but a loose rule of thumb is to expect an average age of 45-75 years.
