Setting sail from Tilbury
The reasons for locating London's only purpose-built deep water cruise terminal in Tilbury were of course pragmatic rather than aesthetic, and we're not going to pretend that this is a glamorous place to begin or end a cruise. However, the location on the Essex bank of the Thames, a short distance from the M25, means that it's a convenient turnaround port for those living in the South East, and it's only 45 minutes by train to central London. The only real point of interest in Tilbury itself is the 16th century fort, situated just along the river from the cruise terminal.

United Kingdom: Rosyth (Edinburgh)
Cosmopolitan Edinburgh, Scotland’s lovely capital, is located in spectacular countryside, always visible from the city centre. Striking architecture, lots to see and do, and great food mean that your time here will be very busy. And if your visit coincides with the Festival, you have a treat in store.

Norway: Bergen
Beautiful Bergen, Norway’s former capital, is a perfect city to explore on foot. Bryggen – the old Hanseatic wharf, and a UNESCO World Heritage site – still has the old harbour timber buildings, whilst other attractions include the funicular up Mount Floyen and the busy fish market.

18 February
Norway: Narvik
Surrounded by dramatic fjords and mountains, the port of Narvik played a key role during World War II as an ice-free outlet to the sea for iron exports from the Swedish mining town of Kiruna. The train ride across the border on the Ofoten Line makes for an interesting day trip, with spectacular mountain scenery en route.

Norway: Harstad
Harstad is situated on Hinnøya, Norway’s largest island, and is one of the most important cultural and commercial centres in the north of the country. The town hosts several annual festivals, and the surrounding landscape of forests, mountains and fjords is perfect for outdoor adventure.
20 February to 21 February
Norway: Alta
Although Alta lies in Norway’s far north, the city has a surprisingly mild climate. Highlights include the UNESCO-listed prehistoric rock carvings at the Alta Museum, some of which date back over 6,000 years, and the striking Northern Lights Cathedral, with its aurora-inspired interior.
22 February to 23 February
Arriving in Tromsø
Tromso’s location well within the Arctic Circle means the summer months are lit by the Midnight Sun, a compensation for long dark winters. Explore the streets with their multi-coloured wooden houses, see the amazing architecture of the Arctic cathedral, or take the cable car up to Mount Storsteinen for a fantastic view.

The Polar Museum, housed in a traditional wharf house, has a fascinating collection from the days of early polar exploration, and explorers such as Nansen and Amundsen.
