Themed cruises offer an enchanting experience, blending the allure of travel with the excitement of specialised interests. Various cruise lines have mastered the art of themed voyages, catering to the passions and preferences of their guests with additional enrichment, tailored onshore activities and renowned speakers and special guests that bring unrivalled insights to the subject. Here we take a look at a few of our favourite themed cruises, many with special guests on board...

Ponant

Ponant offers gastronomy-themed voyages which are in alliance with culinary group Ducasse Paris, founded by world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse. These speical voyages feature specially curated gala dinners, cooking demonstrations, and more. The 13th June 2026 voyage is in partnership with The Dorchester and Ducasse Paris and guests will be joined by special guest, chef Jean-Philippe Blondet, who has is the Executive Chef at restaurant Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London.

Ponant's collaboration with Smithsonian Journeys, the travel programme of the Smithsonian Institution, is also of particular note. Included experiences in each port of call are designed to immerse guests in the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells of each destination; they aim to provide a deeper understanding of the places visited, not to mention the talks and discussions on board by world class experts. Mention must also be made of their partnership with Radio Classique which includes hosting Piano and Opera festivals at sea such as their 8 April 2027 'Rhythms of Spain' voyage.

Hebridean Island Cruises

Hebridean Island Cruises are no strangers to an enriching cruising experience and offer a range of specially themed cruises including wildlife, food and drink, walking, and gardens, with many sailings joined by expert guest speakers to provide fascinating insights and discussion. Next year on 22 July, the 48-guest Hebridean Princess ventures out of Scottish waters in a much-anticipated journey southwards to the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, exploring historic houses and castles along the way. Special guest speaker and veteran broadcast journalist Michael Buerk joins the sailing, to share stories from his fascinating career as a foreign correspondent and documentary presenter.

Another of our favourite theme among the multitude on offer has to be their walking voyages. Labelled as Footloose departures, there is simply no better way to experience the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Islands than exploring on foot, far off the beaten track and often to places only accessible from the sea. Other themes available have been chosen to showcase the very best of Scotland including food and drink, gardens, history and heritage, and wildlife.
