The Seychelles are the heart of Indian Ocean cruising. Granite
islands rise from turquoise water, with beaches that rank among the
most beautiful anywhere. The inner islands around Mahé, Praslin and
La Digue are the most visited, but small ships reach the outer
islands and atolls where the snorkelling is exceptional and the
beaches are empty. Aldabra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of
the world's largest raised coral atolls, is home to giant tortoises
and extraordinary birdlife.
Madagascar is a destination unto itself. The wildlife is unlike
anywhere else on earth, with lemurs, chameleons and endemic species
found nowhere else. Cruise itineraries typically cover the
northwest coast around Nosy Be, combining time on the water with
forest walks and village visits. A Mauritius extension before or
after adds contrast: volcanic peaks, botanical gardens and the
colonial architecture of Port Louis.
Tanzania's coast brings Zanzibar, with Stone Town's spice
markets and layered Swahili history. Further south, Mozambique's
Bazaruto Archipelago and Quirimbas islands are quieter still, with
coral reefs, dhow sailing and a pace that feels genuinely
untouched.
East Africa also serves as a gateway to safari. A Kenyan or
Tanzanian safari before or after your cruise is one of the most
rewarding combinations we arrange. The Masai Mara, Serengeti and
Ngorongoro Crater are all within reach, and we can build a
programme that moves from savannah to ocean in a single
journey.
