Our insight
Don't be tempted to dismiss the idea of a British Isles cruise before taking the time to study the itinerary. You will find calls at remote and virtually inaccessible locations, gateways to stunning scenery and amazing historical sites, and some wonderful full day calls at cities and towns you have long wished to explore.
You will be enthralled by the rich heritage of your homeland, not to mention the amazing wildlife. Look out for the opportunity to visit special events - for example you might be in Edinburgh for the Festival, or to see the Tattoo.
British Isles cruises operate at the height of British summer time, which, as we all know, means the weather can be changeable, but often beautiful. You will enjoy some excellent bonus benefits too: inexpensive travel insurance, and convenient UK departures with no airport queues and an unlimited luggage allowance.
Our tips
Cross the Forth Bridge to visit Hopetoun House, the seaside fortress Blackness Castle, the House of the Binns, the Palace of Linlithgow and Rosslyn Chapel.
Even if you are a Londoner, you will find the journey down to Greenwich fascinating - new developments, ancient wharfs, and the beauty of Greenwich itself.
We love the Hotel du Vin, at One Devonshire Gardens. A really special luxury boutique hotel.
Visit historic Winchester, home to King Arthur’s Round Table, the Great Hall and Winchester Cathedral.

This is a truly unique way to experience Scotland. The unpretentious little Hebridean Princess, inextricably linked to the Western Isles, is loved by all who sail on her, while the recently acquired Lord of the Highlands brings the same intimacy and charm to the inland waters of the Caledonian Canal.
The four small to medium sized Fred. Olsen ships have the quirky style of classic vessels, with an intimate British atmosphere that is cosy and inviting. For great itineraries, local departures, good value and an unpretentious style, Fred.’s your man.
