Brand new cruise line Tradewind Voyages aims to take a more sustainable approach to cruising, operating under full sail whenever possible on board a beautiful ship that combines nautical heritage with contemporary style.
Our Insight
A near replica of the 1913-built ocean vessel France II, Tradewind Voyages' Golden Horizon will carry 272 guests and a crew of 159. This new build vessel retains the charm, adventure and romance of a historic ship, catering to adventurous travellers who wish to connect with the natural world.
The onboard style is relaxed and avoids unnecessary formality, whilst maintaining an elegance that fits with the ship's seafaring traditions. All cabins have sea views, with dark woods and brass fixtures evoking the nautical heritage of a tall ship. The striking dining room has curved wrought-iron balconies sweeping towards a stunning central skylight and caters to all tastes and preferences, including healthy eating, sustainability and wellbeing. Alongside classic dishes, the chefs make every effort to use local fresh produce, creating menus relevant to the region that you're travelling in. There is also the more relaxed option of the open-air Horizon Bar for lunch in the sunshine, and several lounges in which to relax, including the premium beverage bar, Debeljak's, stocked with some of the world's finest gins and whisky.
The onboard spa embodies Tradewind's emphasis on wellbeing, with a sauna, hammam, snow room and Jacuzzi available, along with a range of treatments including massage, facials, wraps and body scrubs. Impressive when considering the size and style of this vessel.
Yoga and fitness classes can be enjoyed on the fore of the Sun Deck and there is a gym available for those wanting a workout. There's an onboard dive master who can accompany guests wishing to test their skills in either the onboard dive pool or the open water, and the marina platform opening at the stern is a focal point during many voyages, providing access to watersports including kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling and more.
Golden Horizon is due to start sailing in May 2021, with a debut season featuring a range of ex UK voyages in Northern Europe, before sailing to the Mediterranean and further afield, including the historic maritime Silk Route to Jakarta, on to Bali and a circumnavigation of Australia.
To identify the perfect itinerary, you can choose the theme that suits. Hidden Beaches voyages will appeal to those who love to be in the water in beautiful surroundings, while Cultural Immersion voyages are all about the destination, the local people, the history and the civilisations along the way. A Sailing Experience is the perfect choice if you love sea days, navigation and maritime history - you might even get to steer the ship!
