As it is a little over a year since Explora Journeys launched we take a look at how the brand has settled and how it stands up against the prelaunch hype. Here's the latest update from Explora Journeys...

At Mundy we've been lucky enough to experience the journey that Explora have been on. Sharon was on board just days after launch, Anjalina travelled around Iceland not long after and most recently Hayley, Louise and Cathy have sailed with them in the Caribbean.

It's fair to say launch wasn't a smooth affair with several delays to Explora I, affected by the supply issues that were all too common during the pandemic. Then, as to be expected with the introduction of any new line, there were areas that needed to be finessed. Yet in the few months post launch the reports have become increasingly flattering.

Shore excursions have been revamped with off-the-beaten-path encounters for groups of between 2-25 including truffle hunting in Istria from Rovinij and Lucca by bike with a picnic atop the city walls.

On board the dining has also been honed and perfected. The ambitious concept that saw the world's best chefs hosting short tenures at Anthology has been replaced with a more practical fixed offering, a culinary journey through Italy with a menu curated by Franck Garanger, Explora Journeys' well respected Head of Culinary.

Reports back from the Mundy team and clients alike flag the culinary experience across the ship as a highlight.

Onboard entertainment has continued to develop and innovate. If guests are so inclined they can use QR codes to access daily activities themed on the ship's location, from trivia to crosswords, or perhaps make music requests to the ship's performers.

There's also a programme of hosted events including an intriguing new multi-day Murder Mystery game. Music takes centre stage including a varied line up ranging from DJs spinning Euro vibes poolside to elegant pre-dinner piano music, enhanced by six additional vocalists who present a fourteen-night programme without repeat performances, supported by guest acts and luminaries

The permanent art collection now features the installation of a privately-owned collection of limited-edition prints from two legendary pop art masters: Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, giving a unique opportunity to view some of their most iconic and influential works. It debuted in June this year and will remain on board until spring 2025.

Looking ahead, a recent announcement will see Explora II (launching this September) visit Monte Carlo in May 2025, taking prime position in the heart of famous Port Hercule throughout race week with a five-night stay in the city to host a series of events - an arrangement no doubt helped by MSC's Global Partner status with Formula 1 and the influence such a large company can exert.

All this bodes well for a cruise line which has construction well underway on Explora III, cut steel for Explora IV back in January, and has orders confirmed for the hydrogen-powered Explora V and VI as part of their pledge to push towards a net zero-carbon emissions target by 2050.

This represents a total investment of €3.5 billion, demonstrating their total commitment to become one of the most popular options for those looking for an ultra-luxury cruise.
