Manama is the capital of Bahrain, a nation spread across an archipelago of 33 islands in the Persian Gulf. Sur is the easternmost major city in Oman, an appealing fishing port with an interesting history as a hub for trade with East Africa. Sur is famous for its dhow building, and you can visit a working boatyard to learn more about this fascinating craft. Other highlights include the lively souk and the nearby turtle reserve at Ras Al Jinz.
