Cruise Advice

Themed cruises offer an enchanting experience, blending the allure of travel with the excitement of specialised interests. Various cruise lines have mastered the art of themed voyages, catering to the passions and preferences of their guests with additional enrichment, tailored onshore activities and renowned speakers that bring unrivalled insights to the subject. Here we take a look at a few of our favourite themed cruises...

Regent Seven Seas

Known for its luxury voyages, Regent Seven Seas stands out in particular for its partnership with Fabergé which sees the only Fabergé egg sail as a permanent exhibit at sea on board their newest ship the Seven Seas Grandeur.

There is also a fascinating Spotlight on Fabergé voyage that sets sail in July 2024 featuring the ship's Godmother, founding member of The Fabergé Heritage Council and great-granddaughter of the legendary artist-jeweller Peter Carl Fabergé, Sarah Fabergé. This is part of a series of Spotlight Voyages accompanied by expert speakers that focus predominantly on food and wine but also include entertainment, ancestry, and history.

Ponant

Offering both classic and expedition cruises Ponant have a variety of themed cruises that cover a myriad of subjects. Their collaboration with Smithsonian Journeys, the travel program of the Smithsonian Institution, is of particular note.

Included experiences in each port of call are designed to immerse guests in the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells of each destination; they aim to provide a deeper understanding of the places visited, not to mention the talks and discussions on board by world class experts. Mention must also be made of their partnership with Radio Classique which includes hosting Piano and Opera festivals at sea on Mediterranean voyages in 2024.

Hebridean Island Cruises

Also offering a golf-themed departure in September 2024, Hebridean Island Cruises' Hebridean Princess is our favourite ship to sail the Scottish coast and our favourite theme among the multitude on offer has to be their walking voyages.

Labelled as Footloose departures, there is simply no better way to experience the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Islands than exploring on foot, far off the beaten track and often to places only accessible from the sea. Other themes available have been chosen to showcase the very best of Scotland including food and drink, gardens, history and heritage, and wildlife.
