The best entertainment on luxury cruises

Cruise Advice
By

If you are looking for lavish Vegas-style entertainment then a luxury cruise is probably not for you: choose the big ships with the space and resource to present extraordinary Broadway shows, Cirque du Soleil style spectacles, or epic shows and events. On a luxury ship, you can expect a more low-key sophisticated experience, but that doesn't mean there won't be plenty to keep you amused. We have picked out the highlights.

Best Piano Bar

Crystal's Avenue Saloon has an intimate club feel with Turkish carpets, dark wood, slatted blinds and comfy seating. With an inspiring cocktail menu and charming bartenders, early evening visitors will enjoy a sedate pre-dinner drink.

But venture in later in the evening, and you may well find a raucous crowd singing along to the talented pianist, or maybe even dancing. If you're in the mood for a party, this is the venue for you.

Best Shows

Production shows are unforgettable in Regent's two-level show lounge the Constellation Theatre, not least because of the perfect sightlines, as well as comfortable banquettes and chairs with service to your seat.

An amazing choice of shows means you have a different experience every evening, from Bohemian Soul to the Lullabies of Broadway, and from Crossroads - where Country meets Rock and Roll - to a heart-pounding spy thriller, Blue Diamond, featuring an International Man of Mystery.

Best Enrichment

The art of conversation has always been central to the Seabourn experience, and Seabourn guests are interesting, interested people sharing their life experiences. To enhance their time on board, Seabourn invite luminaries of particular interest and accomplishment to join their guests on board bringing their own fascinating insights and expert opinions.

People such as explorers, chefs, scholars, and performers from every arena of the arts, sciences, politics and the humanities bring skilled formal presentations as well as participating in the daily social scene.

Best Jazz and Blues Dinner Dance

Evoking old-style dinner dances but with a modern twist, and unique to certain Silversea ships, is Silver Note, a glamorous, intimate setting with a lively, joie de vivre ambience. A perfect choice for dinner, you can enjoy small plate tapas-style dishes of international cuisine whilst enjoying the smooth sounds of jazz and blues.

Best Crew Entertainment

For those who have never experienced it, Windstar's signature deck barbecue and line dancing sounds like something the sophisticated traveller might want to avoid! But after a few days travelling with the charming and personable Windstar officers and crew, you begin to be a little curious about this renowned entertainment.

The line dancers include staff from all over the ship including marine, spa, bar, restaurant, housekeeping, not to mention a selection of slightly uncomfortable looking officers, and their exuberance is beyond infectious.

Best Classical Piano Recitals

Newcomer to the market Explora Journeys have created a partnership with Steinway & Sons who handcraft the world's finest grand pianos, played by the world's greatest pianists since 1853. Iconic pianists join the ship to perform in various venues, as Explora Journeys guests have the choice of a whole range of lounges with a variety of entertainment.

Best Expedition Team

As for the amazing expedition cruises which are becoming increasingly popular, each sailing boasts an extensive expedition team of scientists and researchers keen to share their particular area of expertise from marine biologists to vulcanologists, and from conservationists to ornithologists. As for who is the best, we definitely cannot say!
