7 of the best Christmas cruises in 2021

Cruise Advice

As we become more optimistic about the resumption of cruising this year, it is time to think about December, and what the holiday season holds. Don't forget your New Year resolutions to be out of the country next Christmas!

The predicted pent-up demand is beginning to emerge, and people are planning ahead for the end of this year and into 2022, so now is the best time to book your getaway for the festive season at the end of the year. Not only will you have something wonderful to look forward to, but you can also share your travel decisions with family and friends, and nobody will be offended when the time comes to discuss who is going to be where - in fact many of them will probably decide to come along.

There are so many excellent choices, so we have chosen seven of our favourite itineraries to whet your appetite.

1. Best for Wildlife: Silversea

Everyone with an interest in the natural world is going to prioritise a trip to the Galapagos, where the extraordinary wealth of creatures in the air, on land and in the ocean makes every single day a magical experience. Choose the new Silver Origin for the very best Galapagos experience, sailing from San Cristóbal on 18th December 2021.

2. Best no fly option: Saga

Cruising from the UK in the winter months can be a gloomy experience, but pick this long journey to the Caribbean and back on board Saga's lovely new boutique ship Spirit of Adventure, departing from Southampton on 6th December 2021, and you will enjoy 30 luxurious days away from it all, with lots of sunshine too.

Admiralty Bay, Bequia, St Vincent & The Grenadines

3. Best for the other side of the world: Tradewind Voyages

This is a voyage of a lifetime, a circumnavigation of Australia on board the unique Golden Horizon, the world's largest tall ship, under sail when conditions permit. The 72-day circumnavigation, which starts in Bali on 8th December, returning on 18th February 2022, can be broken into shorter 14- to 16-day sectors if you have less time available.

4. Best for the magic of an Arctic winter: Seabourn

Seabourn's 14-day Northern Lights, North Cape and Norway cruise leaving Tromso on 23rd December 2021 on board the newly launched Seabourn Venture will combine the comfort and luxury of Seabourn at its best with the excitement of sledding, cross country skiing, exploring by Zodiac and more on a quest to see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

5. Best for iconic destinations: AmaWaterways

Pick AmaWaterways' new AmaDahlia cruising the Nile in Upper Egypt and you can visit the extraordinary treasures of the Nile Valley, along with the opportunity to visit the pyramids and magnificent Egyptian museum in Cairo. But that's not all - take a pre-cruise extension to Jordan to see the Red Rose city of Petra, and a post-cruise visit to Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Masada.

Thebes, Nile river, Egypt

6. Best for romance: SeaDream Yacht Club

The intimate al fresco yachts of SeaDream combine the delights of outdoor living with the perfect food and service of a luxury yacht. A convenient flight to Barbados is followed by 15 days of beach parties, snorkelling, hiking in the lush hills and perfect relaxation away from it all in the West Indies and Virgin Islands. Departure is from Bridgetown on 19th December 2021, then stay on board for the return voyage leaving Marigot on 27th December 2021.

7. Best for culture: Crystal River Cruises

If culture, history and beautiful architecture is your thing, travel close to home on a Danube river cruise. The lovely Crystal Ravel sails on an 11-day journey from Budapest to Regensburg departing 22nd December 2021, including overnights in Budapest, Vienna and Regensburg, beautiful scenery and fascinating ports of call.
