New Beginnings with Island Sky
In May, Noble Caledonia will commence the refurbishment of their tiny 100 passenger ship Island Sky.
Loved as she is by many loyal passengers, and still featuring the classic wood panelling which was the signature of the original small Renaissance ships, the aim during this project is to retain the look and feel of the vessel whilst sprucing her up, and freshening her appearance.
With a spend of over £4 million on a primarily cosmetic refit, you can expect some very visible changes: new furniture in public areas, bathroom refitting, decking replaced adn spruced up, increased covered areas on deck and so forth.
Additionally, and this is key to a ship like Island Sky which features guest lecturers and expedition leaders on every voyage, the modernisation of the sound system and AV equipment is paramount. In the lecture theatre there will be four screens, with 360 degree surround sound.
Resident expedition leaders enhance the onboard experience, as well as the guest speakers on all departures. In a new deal with the Oldie – Richard Ingrams’ humorous monthly magazine, packed with great writers and cartoons – Island Sky will be supplied with up to 15 guest lecturers per year from their staff.
In its new incarnation – now wholly owned by Noble Caledonia – wine and beer with meals, gratuities and soft drinks will be included in the fare.
Itineraries from November 2010 through to spring 2011 will include the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, with some very exciting touring options. Call us for more information.
