We that there is a huge desire for non-conformist experiences and a need to seek out the path less travelled, which is why we have created our “A Touch of the Unorthodox” concept.
The products which fall into the “Unorthodox” category have the same three unconventional philosophies:
Destination – exploring unusual destinations, which are on the path less travelled
Adventure – close-up exploration of those destinations
Comfort – the best service and accommodation in the area
Experience Destinations
One of the beauties of cruising is waking up in a different location everyday. “A Touch of the Unorthodox” showcases some of the world’s most spectacular destinations featuring not just breath-taking views, but also unique ecosystems and the flora, fauna, bird and marine life that thrives within them.
We have chosen a range of diverse locations around the globe – From the icy waters of the Antarctic to the spectacular waterfalls and vivid red rock of Australia’s Kimberly region. In these varied environments you can see wildlife ranging from the lemurs of Madagascar to whales in the Sea of Cortez.
In each of these destinations the best vessel and itinerary has been selected to give the most comprehensive immersion in the area. The ships are able to access remote locations with ease, be it a river cruise or rainforest expedition and the cruise lines have an integral understanding of the environments in which they are cruising. This means they treat these environments with the respect they deserve, wanting not only to explore, but also to preserve for future generations. Their onboard experts and expedition leaders enrich your experience with their knowledge both on and off the ship on excellently crafted shore excursions and expeditions.
Experience Adventure
Of the ship, all our unorthodox partners offer fantastic shore excursions and expeditions which are a seamless extension of your cruise experience. These voyages give you the chance to get up-close to wildlife and immerse yourself right in the heart of national parkland, wildlife reserves, hot springs and picturesque local villages. Often the only way to get to the heart of a destination is by Zodiac (sturdy rubber boats specifically designed for this type of expedition). These are used for wet landings which are straight onto the beach or dry landings onto a landing stage or rocky shore. You will be able to enjoy the adventurer spirit as you skim effortlessly across the ocean to see the local wildlife or hidden bays.
On shore the exploration can range from a walking tour around Moscow to snorkelling with turtles, from a rainforest canopy walk to bird watching in the Galapagos. These excursions are enhanced by talks – often before, during and after – by experts in a whole host of subjects, bringing the destination to life.
Experience Comfort
Itineraries way off the beaten track tend to suffer from an underdeveloped tourism infrastructure, with poor quality hotels and transportation. When you visit by water, taking your own accommodation with you, you combine the up-close experience with all the comforts of home, retiring at the end of each exhilarating day to a haven of air-conditioned tranquillity, with food, service and accommodation which is the best available in the region. After a ‘hard day’s exploring’, you can relax over drinks and dinner, talking through your experiences with kindred spirits on board, whilst the expedition leaders and guides travelling with you review what you have seen, and what you can expect to enjoy the following day. You unpack just the once, then relax in comfort and safety, ready to sally forth and experience what the next day may bring.
